In July 2015, the Cyber Security Division (CSD) of the Department of Homeland Security held a two day planning workshop for identity & privacy R&D, at Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA). Colleagues Andrew Nash (Confyrm), Ian Glazer (Salesforce) and I were invited provocateurs. We made short presentations on the state of identity research, and helped facilitate discussions, to draft a five year program of work.

My kick-off presentation “Forget about Identity” was a call for more precise understanding of attributes, the problems with grand federated identity, and the relationship between identity technologies and privacy.
