"Known Customer" certificates at Medicare
Around 2006, Lockstep worked with Medicare Australia's Health eSignature Authority on a world's first digital credential project.
The Health eSignature Authority (HeSA) worked with Barwon Health in Victoria on a digital credentials project, in which locally registered digital certificates carried on HeSA smartcards would convey locally meaningful credentials. The project pioneered the then-new "Known Customer" registration principles in Project Gatekeeper.
Stephen Wilson and HeSA General Manager John Brewer presented details of the Barwon Health project to a meeting of the Australian IT Security Forum.
